Warren Mosler meets with Senator John Corzine, Dem., NJ to discuss monetary and fiscal policy

Dear Sir,

Regarding the following:

Disabled Make Their Voices Count in Forum
by Molly Morris

It was correctly mentioned that I did not appear.

First, I would like to state that I did appear at the similar forum for the disabled in St. Croix a few days earlier, where I outlined my efforts I would make to bring in the desperately needed funding for our disabled.
I further reminded all that federally funded jobs come with federal standards for employment, including prohibitions against discrimination for disabilities.

The reason I missed the meeting in St. Thomas was an invitation to meet with US Senator John Corzine, Democrat, New Jersey, a high ranking Senator who is considered the successor to Sen Tom Daschle should Senator Daschle not win his seat next week.
John is also a business contemporary of mine from his days on Wall St. over 25 years ago. (picture attached) The meeting was regarding US monetary and fiscal policy, where I reviewed the proposal I had prepared for Senator Lieberman.
Senator Corzine let me know he is also a supporter of a Congressional declaration to make social security payments a direct obligation of the US Treasury, to give all citizens assurance that the US government will always be able to make timely payment of all social security benefits.
This declaration also paves the way for Congress to cut payroll taxes to help low income workers, instead of cutting tax rates which tend to benefit high income individuals.

This is what Senator Corzine wants for his constituency, and it also happens to directly benefit the USVI, as payroll taxes are the only taxes the USVI sends to Washington.
I then briefly outlined the state of the USVI economy, and he was shocked by our unemployment rate, and had no idea this was going on.
I asked if he knew about the EDC program and he said he did not, nor did he know our current Delegate to Congress.
When I explained how our EDC program had been attached to the major tax bill they just passed, a heavy sadness came over him.

The meeting ended as he was on the run to make another appearance for other Democrats running for office, asking how soon after the election we could get together again to continue the discussion.

Sincerely,

Warren Mosler
Candidate, USVI Delegate to Congress
St. Croix
